SIR JEFFREY TATE, CONDUCTOR
If you felt that our discussions were important for you, how equally important were they for me! The glimpses of your conducting that I saw show an elegance and simplicity that appeal to me a lot [extract from a personal letter]
ANTONY McDONALD, DIRECTOR/DESIGNER
I have worked with Cameron Burns over the last few years with different companies and on a variety of projects, where he has played a number of roles from voice coach, repetiteur, chorus master to assistant conductor. In every aspect he has shown enormous flair, professionalism, and brought the best out of those with whom he is involved. It has been a great pleasure to see him now bring all his talents and musical imagination together as he moves more and more into the role of conductor and I look forward to working with him again soon
ED SPANJAARD, CONDUCTOR
I got to know Cameron while he assisted me on new productions of Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in the Netherlands. As sometimes happens, when we are lucky, his involvement during the intense process proved a total joy from day one: his knowledge, dedication and sincere artistic feeling were a great support from the start. A few years later, in Amsterdam we cooperated on a fine new production of Britten’s “Owen Wingrave”. It was my intention to grant him a performance; and so he did, and extremely well. It was his first complete opera. Look were he has come since then.. And so well deserved!
JOHN WILSON, CONDUCTOR
Cameron Burns is a highly intelligent, discerning and insightful person and a musician from whom one can ALWAYS learn things. His grasp of the finer points of a score is always illuminating and his quiet, unshowy manner belies a real flair for stylish and exciting music-making.
DAVID SYRUS, FORMER-HEAD OF MUSIC, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE, COVENT GARDEN
I have known Cameron's work for several years and hugely admire his approach to opera, which is grounded in text, both in meaning, and in the way language determines style. He is an outstanding pianist, and has a fine understanding of, and empathy, for singers; he is also very hardworking. Among his generation he is exceptional in his understanding of opera in all its dimensions, and his ability to realise this in the most practical way.
JOAN RODGERS CBE, SOPRANO
Working with Cameron has always been a deeply fulfilling musical experience but moreover hugely enjoyable too. He is an outstanding musician who displays an artistic maturity beyond his years.
IAIN PATERSON, BASS-BARITONE
Cameron and I have worked together many times over the past few years. His innate musicianship, insight and knowledge are matched by a love and enthusiasm for opera which is all too rarely found these days. It is a joy to work with someone who truly understands the intricacies of opera singing.
